Project Overviewx
This 180,000-square-foot, five-story building is an addition to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center campus. It houses the ever-expanding Basic Sciences division of the campus, offering scientists and researchers ample space for their projects, experiments and meetings with future expansion in mind. Predominantly architectural precast concrete, the building’s exterior nods to the existing campus architecture, while new elements included insulated metal panels and large window walls. The addition connects to the existing building through a five-story terrazzo and stone-clad atrium. During the 25-month project, Milton J. Womack, Inc. worked closely with owners developing a strong relationship that continues today. The project received the Best of 2004 Award of Best Private Building Project from South Central Construction Magazine (formerly the Louisiana Contractor’s Magazine).
